Robert Reid Hart - Harrison Line

We've received the following request for information from a visitor to the website:

"My Grandfather, Robert Reid Hart was born in Perthshire in 1881  He served an  apprenticeship in heavy engineering and went to sea initially with the Hope Line.  He obtained a First Class Certificate in 1909 (which I have).  I think that the Hope line went defunct during WW1 He joined Harrisons in 1920 with whom he sailed until the end of WW2.  He died in 1955 when I was 17 and was determined that I should join Harrisons, a company which he truly loved..  I served my time with the Caledon Shipyard in Dundee and went to sea in 1959 with Shell Tankers..  He hated tankers because he had seen what happened when they were torpedoed.  I sailed with Shell until I retired at 58. I was second engineer at 24 and promoted Chief at 31. I wonder if there are any records in Harrisons which might give me some information about my grandfather.  Kind regards,  Ken [Hart]"

If anyone can help with this enquiry, could they please contact Mr Hart directly at kenhart@cytanet.com.cy and leave a note on this forum.

I have emailed Mr Hart to tell him that the Harrison Line archive is in the Liverpool Maritime Museum - which is currently closed!
