LNRS Programme Changes

This is the text of the Chairman's letter to members about programme changes in response to the Coronavirus outbreak:

"It will come as no surprise that, in line with the latest Government advice about social distancing, and in order to protect our members, speakers and venue staff, the Council have decided to cancel the LNRS monthly talks scheduled for April and May.  We hope that the programme can resume as planned in September, but this will depend entirely on the developing situation and we will make a further announcement nearer the time.

Consequently, the Annual General Meeting of the Liverpool Nautical Research Society, which was to have been held immediately before the May talk, is postponed until November at the earliest.  The Chairman’s and Officers’ annual reports and statement of accounts will be circulated to members by email (and post for those who require it) in May and will also be available on the website.  Existing members of the Council will continue in post until the AGM can be convened.  Unless there are significant objections from members we propose that tenure could be extended for up to a year.

We will continue to publish printed and digital editions of The Bulletin as usual.  The Bulletin normally draws heavily on content from the monthly talks and members are particularly encouraged to consider submitting articles for publication.

We will keep you informed whenever there is something new to tell, by the most suitable means and especially through our website at https://www.liverpoolnauticalresearchsociety.org.  You will already be familiar with the website which contains the complete archive of the Society’s publications from 1938 up to the present.  I would also encourage you to login to the discussion forum where you can keep in touch with other LNRS members to discuss Society issues, research topics, or just for a chat.

Please also note that while the Merseyside Maritime Museum remains closed, it is likely that letters addressed to the Society will be considerably delayed.  Members are requested to communicate with us wherever possible through the website or by email directly to contactlnrs@gmail.com.

I hope members will approve and support these decisions which have been taken in circumstances not envisaged within our Constitution, in the best interests of our Society and members.

Elfyn Hughes

Chairman"
