Coaster Mined at Herculaneum Dock 1940s

We've received the following request for information from a visitor to the website:

"As a schoolboy, I witnessed the above incident from the Shorefields railings on Grafton Street and personally knew one of the owners of the rescue boats which fortunately were close by in the dock.

I am an exiled Liverpudlian 90 year old pensioner currently living in Durban, South Africa who is trying to compile his autobiography and am attempting to find details of the coaster which was presumably  on its way to Garston.

I would be grateful if you could assist me.  Regards, John Murphy"

If anyone can help with this enquiry, could they please contact Mr Murphy directly at jmurphylink@gmail.com and leave a note on this forum.

A useful source of information on vessels sunk or damaged in Liverpool during WW2 is 'Port in a Storm' by John Hughes published in  1993 ISBN 095161296-4.

No details of any vessel sunk in Herculaneum Dock but the book contains information about vessels sunk or damaged in the river and has a comprehensive index.
