    Did You Know...?

The inaugural meeting of the Liverpool Nautical Research Society was held on 11 April 1938 in the Accountants' Hall, Fenwick Street Liverpool.  The Society's chief aims were to encourage interest in Liverpool's maritime history and to help preserve "a maritime epoch."

The Liverpool Nautical Research Society has a long-standing and close relationship with the Merseyside Maritime Museum, and our members regularly undertake research in the Maritime Archives and Library.

The Liverpool Nautical Research Society holds monthly talks by members and distinguished guest speakers covering a wide range of maritime topics at The Athenaeum, 18 Church Alley, Liverpool L1 3DD, usually on the third Thursday of each month from September through to May at 12 midday for 12.30pm.  Talks are open to members and invited guests only.

Membership of the Liverpool Nautical Research Society costs as little as £20 per year (£25 for couples and overseas members).  Members receive the quarterly Bulletin and are entitled to attend nine monthly talks at The Athenaeum, Liverpool, free of charge.  Full details can be found on the membership page.

Members are entitled to receive the quarterly Bulletin in both print and digital editions.  Members who choose to receive the digital edition only qualify for a discount on their annual subscription.  Full details can be found on the membership page.

The Liverpool Nautical Research Society has around 200 active members.  While many live in the Liverpool area, others are to be found throughout the United Kingdom and the rest of Europe, and some as far afield as Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United States of America.

The Liverpool Nautical Research Society's subscription year runs from 1st April until 31st March of the following year, but for anyone joining on or after 1st January, their first subscription covers the period until 31st March of the following year, without extra cost.  Members are encouraged to subscribe by Standing Order to ensure continuity of benefits.

Much of the Liverpool Nautical Research Society's archive is available to view on this website free of charge, but the full range of material is available only to members.

Each Society member has a unique website username but can also login using their ordinary email address if they prefer, provided they have informed us of that address.

You can download The Bulletin to read off-line on your PC, tablet or phone, or add it to your Kindle library.

Our monthly talks are now permanently available as video presentations in the members' area of the website.  Simply login and a new item 'Video Presentations' will appear under the 'Activity' tab on the Main Menu at the top of every page.
