New Video Presentation: “Gibbs Bright and the ss Great Britain in Liverpool” by Richard Martin

The latest in our programme of monthly talks, “Gibbs Bright and the ss Great Britain in Liverpool” by Richard Martin, which was presented on 19 May 2022 at The Athenaeum, Liverpool, is now available to view in the members’ area of the website.

Most people have heard of Brunel’s iron steamship Great Britain which, at the time of her completion in 1845 was the largest passenger ship in the world, and many will have visited her, beautifully restored in Bristol.  In this fascinating and very well researched talk, LNRS member and published maritime historian Richard Martin explains that, though she may have been born in Bristol, which ultimately became her final resting place, Great Britain lived her life in Liverpool for 44 years, and argues that the Mersey was her real home.
